It's been a very fast year. Lots of good times and good music. I'd like to thank everyone for their continued support of the label and my various projects, including Ole Hermann Melby, Sam/Phage Tapes, Joe/Small Doses, Josh Lay, Dan Hall, Andy Grant, Chris/Cipher Productions, Rick/Infirmary, Mike Palace, Mike Peck and everyone else I might be forgetting. WILT was founded in 1998 by artist and designer James P. Keeler. Originally the projects focus was a sonic companion to various paintings and installations by Keeler, since that time WILT has grown into an internationally recognized dark music pioneer bridging the gaps between industrial, drone, noise and experimental. Musically utilizing an eclectic palette of instrumentation to create their esoteric sounds. Avant mystics of the modern day WILT continue to create endless landscapes of mystery and isolation juxtaposed against depression and decay.

HORCHATA is the name used by Michael Palace for his electronic music compositions. His music focuses on four major elements: complex beat music, dark ambient soundscapes, programmed compositional glitch music, and field recordings. Often a composition will include several of these elements. Palace has worked for a number of years as a research scientist at the University of New Hampshire's Complex System Research Center as a tropical ecologist working in Amazonia. During his numerous field visits to the rainforest, he has recorded sounds using various microphones and minidisk recorders. Modification of many computer simulations have yielded some interesting sound generating and compositional programs which are featured in newer recordings by Palace.

GEOMANCY is a study of the interconnection between the human consciousness and the energy of the earth. The number six represents harmony and a strong foundation for collaboration and as such 6 tracks weave this meeting of two visionaries into a “perfect” opus. 6 X 1 = 6 and 3 X 2 = 6, and 1 + 2 + 3 = 6.

Geomancy is focused on sacred geometry, the way that spirit integrates into matter - by echoing and amplifying the geometry of nature and planetary movements. The sonic resonance of body/mind/spirit with the harmonic frequencies of the cosmic above and the earthen below. Maximizing the possibility of connection to the One.

Blistering cold raw field recordings of the mighty Wisconsin blizzard of 2011. Tape 1 are raw unprocessed field recordings of the blizzard recorded in real-time via a vintage magnavox microphone and slimeline cassette tape recorder.
Tape 2 side 1 is a collage of all the glitches, freezing microphone sounds and malfunctions during the recording process very much akin to AUBE. Tape 2 side 2 is a representational track of what it felt like to stand in the middle of 60 mile an hour winds being blasted with icy snow. Harsh manipulations of the field recordings.

Variations for Acoustic Guitar and Magnetic Tape

Variations for Acoustic Guitar and Magnetic Tape is an epic soundtrack of improvised psychedelic recordings all nestled in an homage to magnetic tape. Each track alternates between Dan Halls improvised acoustic guitar to James Keelers abstract, yet narrative sound collages. Dans pieces range from traditional folk to drone to psychedelic randomness all recorded to 4 track cassette. While James juxtaposes a variety of tape manipulation, medium and recording techniques to create a landscape of obscure compositions. This release comes in 2 editions.

The first edition is a special art box created and hand assembled by James P. Keeler, where a series of paintings were created as a reflection of the sounds captured to tape. 10 reel-to-reel boxes that hold three tapes and a booklet were used as canvas. The 10 boxes make up 20 paintings, front and back, that all together form the painting called, “Variations”.

The second edition or standard edition comes with two tapes, insert and full color art on the outside. The outer art is a digital print of the entire “Variations” painting in its entirety.

ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE (LIVE MNPLS)

Allegory of the Cave is a new 20 minute piece composed by WILT that was performed on April 24th, 2010 at the Heavy Focus 3 Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This was WILTs first live performance since the infamous “At Play in the Dark Meadows” Tour in 2006. Ranging from dark drones, sharp electronics, goth bass lines and junk metal abuse, AOTC is a fitting opus to the solitude of WILT and its experience in coming into the light after living in the dark for so long.

The tape includes the 20 minute opus performed at the fest, a live studio version of the piece, plus 3 unreleased studio tracks.

This edition was created and assembled by James P. Keeler. 10 tape cases were used as canvas. The 10 cases make up the piece called, “Cave Painting”.

The newest release from Josh Lay's Husk Records is the label's first vinyl release, a 7" EP of skin-crawling necro-industrial from Wilt, who many of you might also know as the other band from the guys behind the industrial noise-doom band Hedorah. Wilt's brand of fiendish black drone-noize is always amazing, and this Ep delivers three tracks of minimal black drift and much heavier abstract crush that fans will definitely love. The a-side features the title track, an aural night-terror of crushing black synthesizer drone, recordings of howling wolves, oscillating buzzsaw sine waves fluctuating in slow motion, a blighted death ambience that is slowly joined by more layers of soft subterranean drift and minimal whir until a deeply detuned piano appears playing this low-register minor-key melody, a simple descending four note dirge that repeats over and over, spreading out across the increasingly ominous black ambience that becomes populated with tolling bells, howling arctic winds and distant demonic keening. The flipside has two tracks: "Cold Grave"'s grim two-chord synth drone becomes lost in a blizzard of black arctic wind, like a classic Norwegian black metal intro stretched out into a full song, the synth becoming seriously blown out, peaking into a distorted roar as the sound of blasting wind gets caught in a locked groove; and then "Haunting The Chapel" oozes in, a crushing blackdoom dirge with putrid low-end bass, hellish screams of the damned being flayed alive, a grinding murky black industrial dirge that sounds sort of like the black abstract sludge-noise of Sewer Goddess, but this is way more "necro", utterly pitch black and evil sounding, keening horns muffled in the distance, smears of eerie melody obscured by the dense industrial rumble and howling subterranean winds and viscous low end noise.
This version of She Stalks The Night that we have in stock also includes a limited edition cassette that has an additional four Wilt tracks. The tape includes the minimal dungeon ambience, droning black synth, clanking metal, monstrous exhalations and necro-industrial drift of "Invocation Of The Bride", "She Lives" with it's minor key piano, bass throb, and menacing factory noise, "SVF"'s horrific industrial wasteland of looped feedback yowl, distorted pipe organ, blackened hissing and whispers and looped voices, sounding like a horror movie score blasted through blown speakers, and on the second side, the sidelong "She Walks The Night (Reprise)", a minimalist return to the 7" a-side, a barely-there isolationist expanse of black ether, strafed by strange percussive noises, ripples of treated piano, tolling bells, and the flutter of black wings against the night sky...
Comes in a black and white sleeve with creepy high-contrast imagery; the 7"/cassette edition is limited to 100 copies.

‘She Walks The Night’ is a rare treat from Josh Lay’s Husk Records - not that he isn’t keeping busy, we just never hear from him direct - and the label’s first piece of vinyl. Keeler and Hall, coming off a hectic 2009, are less of a rarity in the Wilt vehicle even when it comes to vinyl, as last year saw a split with Prurient on Bloodlust!, among many mentionable tapes. Still, the release at hand is an unmistakable act of curatorial love on Lay’s behalf, as any ambient 7” no doubt must: more Poe than Plan 9, the album stirs with pathos, half fear and half longing, and conveys this with so much atmosphere that the objects appear only through psychopathic want and not sense. The title track is admittedly gothic like a Vincent Price rendition with howling, clattering, and a rich fog of whole organ chords blow about the track; however, the sentiment remains unsettled, that is, where is “she” and where is this representation? The possibilities become more vexing when we consider the camera’s position as it moves through this sonic environment, that it walks, that is, I the listener walks, willed or no. The B side contains two brief tracks of a more stationary, therefore objective experience – “Cold Grave” and “Haunting the Chapel” – the first a guitar-singed howl, half-vacant, half-revelatory as it resonates handsomely despite a drooling loop by no means self-evident, the second a murkier fume of deep, two-chord bass grumblings and tinny noise carving deeper the grooves on the vinyl. Though the titling is likely description enough, the sounds don’t always follow from logic, and repeat listens are prompted by this fact alone (of course tastes should have dark ambient fans flipping this to no ends). For that half of you who pick up the extended edition which comes with a bonus cassette, you will find an extra twenty minutes of material to help decipher the riddle of the too-brief record. This includes the suggestions “Invocation of the Bride”, “She Lives”, and the likely lynchpin “SVF”; the tapes ends with the side long “She Walks The Night (Reprise)”, which, at twice the length of the centerpiece, extensively renders the terrain to reveal more mundane spaces in this realm of nocturnal insects, wooden floors, clocks (which though startling, would ring regardless), and some toiling which appears less than malicious. At various stages of development, these tracks vary in length and, while clearly edited-down and mixed, feature what feels like rawer takes of guitar, organ, and some unexpected samples which cut raggedly into the ghoulish tone which is so well-conveyed. 200 copies on black vinyl (100 with the cassette).

Josh Lay’s Husk Records has been such a find. Every time I get a new package for review, I am elated to see another Husk item. This month I was spoiled enough to get the 7” and bonus cassette of Wilt’s “She Walks the Night”. There are only 100 copies of the cassette, so you’ll want to get in on that soon.

The 7” is a dark and sparse chunk of drone. Three songs that move melting iceburg style over your ears. It’s a concise piece of vision, metal but not metal, drone but not boring and dark as can get.

The cassette piece is a little more varied, but taking the 7” ideals a little further. Drones are condensed, sole organ notes swirl in your head while looped vocals contribute to some hypnosis, leaving you nodding out at your desk. The B-side of the cassette “She Walks the Night (reprise)” is a side-long track of drone with a litany of sounds coming to join, dissect, add and darken. 8/10 -- Andrew Murdock Livingston (28 April, 2010)

WILT: She Walks the Night 7" + Bonus Cassette

Oooh Wilt. Did you really think that starting your new 7" off with howling wolves was a good idea? AWESOME. Just making sure we're on the same page.

She Walks The Night is a new piece of mini vinyl, the first 100 of which came with a bonus cassette (which is actually twice as long as the 7"). And these tunes are some of the bleakest minimal black metal noise to ever grace my turntable. Murky, desolate, and totally fucking pitiful, the type of sounds you hear wandering through a forgotten zombie infested graveyard in the middle of the night while fog rolls across the moon.

The tape has an extra 4 tracks, one of which is a reprise of the title track opening the vinyl, and it's more of the same. Which is a good thing, obviously. Creepy black ambience, Undead shuffling through empty mausoleums, the leathery flapping of bat wings, earth rumbling thunder, church bells ringing in the distance, the sound of utter hopelessness and grim filth.

Not sure if this is still available with the companion tape but it should be because it hasn't been out very long. Either way though, She Walks The Night is fucking essential for your collection of necrotic ambient 7 inches. Husk totally rules for putting this out (side note: and for putting out that origami style Mudboy LP)

1. Prurient + Wilt: Blood of the Lamb LP (BLOODLUST!)

Word from Dominick Fernow (Prurient) is that the LP covers and posters are complete and that the LP should be back from the pressing plant in the next week or two. All those who ordered the Complete Kingdom Recordings boxset will have the final chaper in their hands very soon. All our copies of the LP are sold out. Those who were not able to order the LP directly through us can purchase direct from the BLOODLUST! label. Act fast, as there were only 100 made of this amazing deluxe release.

2. WILT: Southern Cross (Cipher Productions)

In the next week or so we should be receiving copies of the limited Southern Cross release from Cipher Productions. The release contains a 40 minute cassette, lathe cut 7" and inserts all packaged in a black cloth bag with the WILT logo silkscreened on the front. Southern Cross is a a dark fusion of nightmarish blackened noise, sludgy atmospheres and BM folk. Orders are currently being accepted for $19 US postage paid / $25 World postage paid. 3. Spring/Summer 09 Releases

This Spring and Summer we have a very ecclectic range of releases coming out. All very limited with the emphasis on unique packaging and exceptional outsider sound. Details below:

Rodmaker: Crusty Socks and ... (Midwestern Subculture Series Vol.2)

Limited casette of weird atmospheres and psychedelics all encapsulated in a world of adult themes. Rodmaker is part of a mysterious midwestern subworld where tapes appear in the mail out of nowhere and imply a true outsider approach to experimental music. The packaging for this one is so intense that we've decided only to hint at its architecture and to let the final listener experience it in all its sobriety. Think Smell and Quim meets MSBR meets American Tapes.

HEDORAH + KATCHMARE: The End of the World e.p.

The title says it all. The most oppressive black noise doom hate ever to be recorded. Format and edition to come.

4. WILT Studio News

After two solid days of recording, WILT is assembling a new batch of limited edition material for Small Doses, Danvers State Recordings and Phage Tapes. Along with emphasis on the upcoming 2xCD "Cemetery Road/Dead Electronics" coming later this year from Ad Noiseam. More details to follow.

The complete collaboration between Prurient and Wilt resurrected in one limited edition boxset release. Material collects alternate versions of tracks, unreleased tracks, new visions and raw source material. The 4 tapes, booklet and candle are housed in a wooden box that was once used to store slides of blood, wrapped in black plastic and bound with red duct tape.

Cassette Boxsets will be shipped first, separately from the LP. LPs go out later after their release.
